not simple and not easy

I feel like all problems can be mutually exclusively and collectively exhaustively categorised by asking two questions about the proposed solutions:

  1. Are they simple i.e. it’s obvious what they are, and how to carry them out?
  2. Are they easy i.e. will they take a significant amount of effort, toil, and suffering to execute?

Clearly, “not simple and not easy” is the worst place to find yourself in, because you need to commit hard to any particular route, but it might not even fix the issue you have in the first place.

I’m not sure about others, but I certainly would prefer simple and easy, and, failing that, simple and not easy. Overall, pain isn’t that bad, if you can see the goal and know that you’re getting there, even slowly, right?

It’s when things are not simple that the way becomes dark and full of terrors. Imagine putting your blood, sweat, toil, and tears into months or even years of work…and then you realise you were always pushing on a pull door.
